Farther into the wilderness

I announced on my Facebook a few days ago that it’s official – we’re buying a new house!!

Many people have been asking the obvious question (well, obvious if you know my family personally), “what about your plans to build onto your current home?  you’re not doing that?” and the simple answer is no, we’re not.

One of the great things about life is that plans can change for the better in the blink of an eye.  We like the area we live in now, but we definitely feel like this new home is where God wants our family to be, although we’re not sure why quite yet.  We put in a ton of work on our current home, and it’s a little disappointing not to finish what we started here, but the upside of that is that Daryl’s brother, Derek, needs a place of his own and our place will be perfect for him and his daughter, Autumn!

The house is 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, with an office and a (finished) walkout basement.  The property is about 3 acres & it’s very very rural – as in, the town is population 450. It’s about 25 minutes to the closest civilization (and by that I mean Walmart, ha!) and our closest neighbors will be about 2 acres away.  It’s surrounded by (and built on!) rolling hills, most of the property is woods, and it’s only about 1/4 mile from a great fishing spot on the James River!  We’ll use one of the bedrooms upstairs as my office, the office room downstairs will be Daryl’s, then we’ll have a guest room downstairs and the master & James’ rooms upstairs!  I couldn’t be more excited!  The house was a repo, so it’s a little bit trashed right now, but the potential is absolutely outstanding.  I’ve been constantly looking at paint colors & decorating ideas, thinking about where to put all our furniture & such, and dreaming about sitting on the back deck with a glass of wine watching the sunset with my husband!

We close on the deal on our 5th anniversary (that has to be a sign we’re doing the right thing, aye?!) and we hope to be moved in by Thanksgiving 2010!  Is it weird that I’m the most excited about decorating for Christmas?
