I need no rust in my life.

BEFORE: The previous owners painted this railing green in 1983. Or at least that’s how it looked! We’ve been living with it like this since we bought our home, but now that Spring is upon us (and we want to spend more time out on the deck!) I decided to finally take on the tedious task of painting each individual rail the color of our shutters (a medium, warm grey). I rolled the paint on rather than spraying it, because I didn’t want to get paint all over the deck boards…plus, it was extremely windy that day and paint would have been all over everything else, too!

AFTER: Tedious is an understatement. I got one side done and called it a day! But look at how much better it looks! I was tickled pink to step back and look at the HUGE difference between the rusty green railing and this super slick grey railing. Now if I could just bring myself to sit down/stand up (and then sit down, then stand back up, then sit down, then stand back up…) and finish it!

And just for the heck of it, here’s a picture James took of me in my painting getup. I had to wear one of Daryl’s hats because it was SO windy and my hair was everywhere…including landing on my freshly-painted railing. I’m pretty happy that the camera focused on the screen door instead of on me!
